We are a local charity based in Halliwell who have been helping to reduce loneliness and isolation in the over 50's since 1994.  Although based in Halliwell we do cover other parts of the Bolton area, providing a one to one befriending service to people in their homes and welcoming anyone who wants to join any of our clubs at St Pauls Community Centre.   We also offer day trips out and other annual events.

Our aim has always been to reach out to those of our older community to offer friendship and support, plus a safe space to socialise where you will receive a warm welcome from a group of kind and caring people.

Befriending

We have an excellent befriending scheme that covers the majority of the BL1 area that provides successful and lasting matches which not only benefits the person being visited but also the volunteer befriending them too.  We do advise that you contact us with your address to confirm that your area is covered by our scheme.  These visits help to significantly reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation, and in certain cases give individuals who are physically able to leave their homes the confidence to overcome their emotional and mental health issues that are holding them back from socialising with the outside world.

 

Referrals for befriending are for people who are 50 and over and are unable to leave their homes due to physical or emotional health issues.

(Please note that we do not provide befriending for people with a diagnosis of advanced Dementia or Alzheimer's). 

 Our referrals can be completed by anyone, including yourself. Once we have received your referral a member of staff will be in touch to arrange an informal visit to have a chat to gather a bit more information about yourself to discuss what it is you are wanting from our service, such as are you unable to leave the house and want a friendly face to chat to? Do you not have the confidence to get out and socialise and need some emotional support to get you there?  Once we have the information we need we can then start the process of matching up a volunteer to befriend you.  Whatever your reason for wanting a befriender please click on the PDF icon to download our referral form or give us a call for any other information.
